Thanks for an AMAZING birthday!

You guys!

I'm sure that during my drunken fugue Saturday night, between random declarations of love and handsy affection from a first-time Frank-N-Furter, I thanked each and every one of you for coming out to Rocky Horror for my birthday.

This is me thanking you one more time: THANK YOU!

I don't think I could ask for a better squad. How you all still tolerate my nonsense I will never know, but I know better than to ask why.

Love you guys,
James

Greg,

I've had some time to consider the re-imaging of Cobblepott's we had discussed.

I'd like to thank you. Whether you decide to adopt some of these ideas for part of October, keep some of them around as a permanent change to the club's offering, or scrap them all together for being counter to the ideals or image you're striving for, exploring the aesthetic and imagining the finished product has been good fun.

I've grown increasingly dissatisfied with the progress I'm making on the rewrite of my novel, and my hope is that diversions like this will get my creative juices flowing. Add the fact I am hopefully making a positive impact on a friend's passion, and I am doubly rewarded.

I appreciate the need for keeping your business relevant and adaptable, while remaining grounded in its roots. I am facing the same scenario with my hanuted house and escape room ventures. I hope I've captured and addressed those needs in these suggestions. I will say, though, that I think this is better suited as a short-term implementation. I think a more accessible theme (say, pin-up model 'cheesecake') would serve your clientele better in the long term.

THEME and INSPIRATION
As I mentioned when we first spoke, the general theme I have in mind is MASQUERADE. My main source of inspiration is the Carnival of Venice (Carnevale di Venezia). There are some secondary sources of inspiration; Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut; The Black Lodge from Twin Peaks; Graphic Depictions, Episode 2 (an adult short film starring Stoya).

NAME
In keeping with the Venetian Carnavale theme, my initial thought for a name was BACCHANAL. The name conjures up imagery of lust, revelry, consumption, and excess. I feel it captures the look and feel, as well as the emotions one would hope the patrons come away with. Plus, it's a name that encourages people to spend. Other names I had considered were PALAZZO (palace), DECADENZA (decadence), or OPULENZA (opulence).

DESIGN
The masks are likely the most memorable aspect of the look. They are distinctive, traditionally made of leather, porcelain, or glass, decorated with gesso paint, gold leaf, feathers, and gems. Just as with Halloween costumes from our childhood, it's all about the mask. The masks' inspiration are evident when looking back at commedia dell'arte from the 16th century. However, it doesn't have to be strictly in keeping with that time and place.

I imagine most dancers and staff would be most comfortable wearing colombina half-masks. You can encourage them to personalize them and make them their own. Some of the more adventurous or creative performers may prefer Venetian animal masks. I think the important thing is that eyes are not obscured. They are an essential element of non-verbal communication, and being able to see them clearly is essential.

The Venice Carnival is where I look for inspiration regarding fabrics if any of the women want add texture to their lingerie or want to go for a corset look. Alternately, deep colors (black and gem tones) work very well, and you can get a feel for how everything comes together.

The masks and fabrics satisfy the need for costumes, without resorting to common vinyl outfits. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but anyone can do it.Once October ends, the costuming choice of corsetry and brocades can be carried forward.

So, what do you think?

Roxanne,

I promised you a formal offer. Please read the enclosed offer letter and let me know if you have any questions.

We hadn't discussed your salary requirements, so I just took a shot in the dark based on a payscale.com search. Also note that there is no expiration date on that letter. Take as much time as you need.

James
